Learn About Takeda in Narita

Our Narita Factory was originally established in 1984 and is located in northern Chiba Prefecture not far from Narita International Airport. Here we manufacture pharmaceuticals called "plasma-derived therapies" for patients with immunodeficiency or auto-immune disorders.

Plasma-derived therapies are classified as specified biological products under the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Act. Therefore, manufacturing facilities, manufacturing controls, and quality control are more strictly regulated than typical pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities.

The 'Act on Securing a Stable Supply of Safe Blood Products' ('Blood Act') requires improvements in the safety of plasma-derived therapies and securing a stable supply.

Plasma-Derived Therapies Originate From People's Desire to Help Others

There are unknown possibilities for plasma-derived therapies made from blood donations made by people who want to help others. We want to improve lives and prevent diseases for which no cures have been established. With this goal in mind, we will open up the future of plasma derivatives. Our driving force is our strong determination to "never waste the thoughts entrusted to us and never give up."

Manufacturing of Plasma-Derived Therapies

Plasma-derived therapies are directly linked to human life, and maintaining a stable supply is an important mission. Therefore, along with the evolution of equipment, laws, regulations, etc., our technology and skills must also evolve further. We continue to make daily efforts to maintain and achieve a stable supply and high quality.

To maintain quality:

We believe that complying with established procedures and conducting stable production operations are directly linked to maintaining quality. To operate manufacturing equipment consistently, it is necessary to manage quality from various viewpoints. We strive to maintain quality through manufacturing and quality control from the 5M perspective of "Men, Methods, Machines, Materials, and Measurements."

To hone and improve technology:

We believe that the improvement of technology is to "deeply understand what is commonplace, improve it through practical application, and advance it until it evolves into a technology that creates new value." For that reason, we are looking back on the "obvious" functions and theories of facilities and equipment, and through self-improvement seeking to improve our technology. In addition, we also put forth efforts for individuals to express their skills and visualize their capabilities through the improvement of our technology.

To convey technology:

OJT (on-the-job training) and OFFJT (group training) are commonly used methods to teach skills and techniques. With pharmaceuticals, it is desirable to manufacture under conditions that do not involve human intervention in order to prevent contamination by foreign substances. However, some processes must rely on human hands.

Equipment continues to evolve, and operations with fewer people are progressing. At the same time, we believe that technology based on theory and reasoning is universal, and we are working on nurturing and passing on technological knowledge to the next generation.

Our Narita Site has evolved with Takeda’s growth and it now plays a vital part in our manufacturing strategy.

Narita Employee Experience

Takeda has several plasma-derived therapy factories in Europe and the United States, and there are various exchanges at the Narita Factory. With the support of overseas experts, we are working to further progress themes such as the quality assurance system, further improvement of yield by improving existing manufacturing equipment, and the manufacturing environment.

We are in the midst of major changes in the history of the Narita Plant and the history of plasma-derived therapies in Japan. This is a time and an environment where we can pursue challenges and growth.

The Narita Plant manufactures plasma-derived therapies, which is rare even in Japan. Since this formulation is often used by patients with severe diseases, it is very important to stably deliver and supply high-quality medicine, and endeavor to ensure high quality every day. Everyone wants to live a healthy and happy life, and the same is true for patients. At the Narita Site, we understand the importance of our work to help transform the lives of patients.
