Job Description
About the Role:
As the Head of Sustainable CMC and Innovation, you will lead the strategic integration of sustainability and digital innovation within the Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls (CMC) function. Your primary objective will be to champion our "In Silico first" approach and ensure sustainability is embedded across all CMC activities, from research through to commercial manufacturing. This role is crucial in driving Takeda's mission toward achieving net-zero goals, enhancing product development efficiency, and accelerating time to market. You will foster a forward-thinking culture that prioritizes scientific excellence, sustainability, innovation, and value-driven leadership.
How you will contribute:
As the Head of Sustainable CMC and Innovation, your contributions will span strategic leadership, team management, and cross-functional collaboration, all aimed at embedding sustainability and digital innovation into every facet of CMC processes. Your primary responsibility will be to lead the adoption of cutting-edge digital technologies and sustainable methodologies across the CMC function. This includes driving the integration of "In-Silico first" approaches to optimize research, development, and manufacturing processes, thereby reducing time, costs, and environmental impact.
You will oversee a diverse, interdisciplinary team that combines expertise in science, engineering, and digital technologies. This team will work collaboratively to pioneer new sustainable practices within CMC, ensuring that these innovations are seamlessly integrated into Takeda’s global operations. Your leadership will be critical in nurturing a culture of innovation and sustainability, where team members are encouraged to experiment, share ideas, and contribute to Takeda's sustainability goals.
In addition, you will be responsible for cultivating strong collaborations both within and outside the organization. This includes working closely with other departments, such as Research & Development (R&D), Global Manufacturing & Supply (GMS), and Quality (GQ), to ensure that sustainability initiatives are aligned with broader corporate objectives. Externally, you will establish and maintain relationships with industry partners, regulatory bodies, and sustainability-focused organizations to stay ahead of industry trends and incorporate best practices into Takeda’s operations.
A key part of your role will also involve talent development. You will design and implement training programs to build expertise in advanced modeling, simulation, and data analytics within your team and beyond, ensuring that Takeda remains at the forefront of digital and sustainable future pharmaceutical manufacturing. Your efforts in talent management will help position Takeda as an industry leader, attracting top talent and fostering a high-performance culture focused on innovation and continuous improvement.
Furthermore, you will play a pivotal role in advocating for sustainability at the corporate level, representing the CMC function in broader organizational sustainability initiatives. You will influence strategy and decision-making, ensuring that sustainability remains a core consideration in all product development and manufacturing processes. Your presentations to senior leadership and active participation in global initiatives will help shape the direction of Takeda’s sustainability efforts, reinforcing the company’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprint and achieving long-term sustainability goals.
Qualifications:
PhD in Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biotechnology, or a related field with 10+ years of relevant industry experience with substantial experience in digital transformation and sustainability in pharmaceutical manufacturing
A proven track record in leading digital CMC initiatives, advanced modeling, and sustainability projects
Strong scientific leadership, talent development, and strategic planning skills are essential, along with the ability to influence internal teams and the broader industry
Alignment with Takeda's leadership behaviors and a deep understanding of CMC digital technologies and sustainability practices are critical to success in this role
