Job Description

This role will be based in Tokyo, report directly into the Head of Japan Oncology Business Unit and be responsible tomake critical decisions for managing the broader JOBU business as a member of JOBU Leadership Team (JOLT).

About the role:

You will drive the development and implementation of Japan Oncology BU (JOBU) business strategy, and Portfolio & Pipeline strategy, as well as to plan and execute innovative approaches to create value for the HCPs and patients. It is critical that you will engage cross-function (e.g. Marketing, Medical, Finance) / cross BU (e.g. Japan Pharma BU, Japan R&D, Global Manufacturing & Supply) / cross boarder (e.g. Global Oncology BU (GOBU), Global Business Development, Global R&D) teams and lead these members through influencegiven the complexity of the projects to be executed. You are expected to develop and strengthen organizational capabilities of Japan Oncology Business Unit (JOBU) in following areas:

  • New Product Planning
  • Pricing, Policy and Access
  • Business Strategy
  • Partnership / Alliance Management

How you will contribute:

New Product Planning / Pricing, Policy and Access

  • Develop and execute asset strategies for pipeline assets in early development phases by providing early objective view of unmet needs, target profile, market potential, competitive landscape and commercial risks. Coordinate pre-commercialization activities for these pipeline assets prior to handing them off to commercial teams.
  • Drive Life Cycle Management (LCM) to maximize the asset values, in collaboration with the JOBU Medical Affairs and Marketing Team, Japan R&D team, as well as the Global OBU counterparts.
  • Lead the cross-functional coordination in ensuring the quality of forecasting and asset evaluation, to support the “Search & Evaluation” function of GOBU.
  • Fomulate pricing / access strategies in collaboration with Patient Value, Policy & Access (PVPA) teams in GOBU as well as Japan Pharma BU (JPBU)
  • Ensure that the needs for Oncology Business is appropriately represented in the policy discussion with authority and industry associations, as well as KOLs.

Business Strategy

  • Drive the establishment, deployment and execution of the JOBU mid-term strategy.
  • Lead and/or facilitate cross functional/company-wide projects for driving the JOBU mid-term strategy.
  • Monitor critical projects for driving the JOBU mid-term strategy led by other function(s)/division(s) in JOBU, and provide strategical support to them as needed.

Partnership Management / One Oncology Strategy

  • Drive the realization of “ONE Oncology Concept” in Japan, establishing and strengthening the collaboration model across the value chain (i.e. R&D, GMS, Commercial), and creating a differentiated value JOBU can bring to the external eco-system surrounding patients and HCPs confronting cancer.
  • Drive the development and execution of innovative solutions to create value for the HCPs and patients, leveraging partnerships. (e.g. with academia, biotech, government, etc.)
  • Appropriately and compliantly contribute to as needed to public relations activities, scientific data assessments and KOL/advocacy engagements.

Team / Capability Building

  • Increase the quality and depth of necessary talent in the team to achieve the team’s objective, through allocation of resources needed to invest in talent development, as well as active scouting of talents outside Takeda
  • Create compelling and robust development and succession plans for all key positions within the team.

Leadership

  • Maximize the team’s effectiveness and efficiency to achieve the objective, as the head of department.
  • Contribute to the decision making of the broader JOBU as part of the Japan OBU Leadership Team (JOLT) , beyond heading the SPP department.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

Educational Background

  • Minimum BA/BS degree in business, marketing, scientific field, or other related field required.
  • MBA, or relevant Master degree or Ph.D. is preferred.

Professional Background and Expertise

  • Minimum of 7+ years’ experience in pharmaceutical and/or healthcare industries.
  • Experience in oncology therapeutic area, and/or R&D organization is strongly preferred.
  • Track record and deep knowledge of portfolio management, NPP, LCM in pharmaceutical industry, as well as experiences in Pricing, Policy and Access is a plus.
  • Ability to comprehend and assess scientific / real-world data and to develop asset strategies, including NPP and LCM.
  • In-depth understanding of R&D process (e.g. study design) to appropriately provide inputs to Global commercial and/or R&D organization to reflect Japanese patients’ needs
  • Ability to develop and evaluate holistic business cases including overall corporate investments (e.g. NPV, IRR, ROI or other major KPIs)
  • Outstanding analytical skills and ability to complete deep quantitative and qualitative analysis of complex strategic initiatives.
  • Ability and experiences to demonstrate competitive intelligence collection to reflect them into overall portfolio strategy and its prioritization

Leadership and Management capabilities

  • Experience in a leadership role within a multi-functional commercial and/or R&D organization.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence, lead, negotiate and work effectively at all levels within a matrix and multi-cultural environment by embracing “Diversity, Equity and Inclusion”.
  • Enthusiasm, confidence, ability to develop capability of the organization and individuals in his/her team.
  • Capability of demonstrating enterprise strategic thinking, initiative and creativity.
  • Ability to debate, collaborate and convince cross-functional stakeholders effectively in English to cultivate necessary alignments for flowless execution

Languages

  • Full business proficiency, sufficient to lead negotiation with external stakeholders and have conversation over contracts in English, is required.
  • Understanding of Japan's business culture, customs, and processes are necessary, andbusiness-level Japanese communication skills are not essential but preferred.

Ways of Working:

  • Position Location: Nishonbashi Hon-cho, Chuo-ku, Tokyo, Japan
  • A hybrid working way in a combination with working in the office and working remotely.
  • Working in the office for 2days and more per one week is required..
  • Remote meeting systems (MS Teams ) , chatting systems ( MS Teams and WhatsApp) are available.

Takeda Compensation and Benefits Summary:

  • Allowances: Commutation, Housing, Overtime Work etc.

  • Salary Increase: Annually, Bonus Payment: Twice a year

  • Working Hours: Headquarters (Osaka/ Tokyo) 9:00-17:30, Production Sites (Osaka/ Yamaguchi) 8:00-16:45, (Narita) 8:30-17:15, Research Site (Kanagawa) 9:00-17:45

  • Holidays: Saturdays, Sundays, National Holidays, May Day, Year-End Holidays etc. (approx. 123 days in a year)
